Everything in Moderation
Customers always ask me how do I not gain weight owning a bakery. I chuckle because it’s not easy! I have always loved bread and sweets and having those two things available to me on a daily basis means everything in moderation! I just finished a round of Whole30. Think of it like pushing the “reset” button with your health, your habits and your relationship with food. I’ll leave it at that. Two times a year I embark on this 30-day journey eliminating sugar, alcohol, whole grains, peanuts, beans and soy, and dairy. I do this when my normal eating habits have gone out of sync giving me stomach issues, fatigue, weight gain and just an overall sense of not feeling quite right. Yes, it’s hard but it’s not as hard as quitting heroin or beating cancer as is stated in the preface of the book. They inspire you with the truth. And yes, the truth can be hard but you’ve all done way harder things. You can do this. It’s just one month they say.
Yes, I’m feeling myself again. I’m back on track and have eliminated from my life some things I know are unhealthy triggers such as all things crunchy such as crackers and potato chips – my weaknesses. I have added some bread and sugar back into my diet because I own a bakery and because I like bread and sugar. Everything in moderation.
I share with you these things because we all have struggles and it’s a constant conversation in our industry. Owning a gluten free bakery has opened the door to a world of allergen related issues and beyond. I have had so many meaningful conversations on very personal levels of what others are dealing with. This business is so much more than being just a gluten free bakery.
If you have been following me since inception or over the past 3 years, you will remember I used to carry a line of keto products from “Smart Cookie Baker”. Everyone loved her giant keto cookies but then she sold the business to a very nice young man who has since stopped production. Since then, we have started to bake a few things in house that are naturally sweetened. Still at that, it’s not our wheelhouse and I’ve always hoped to once again find a reliable source. Well, that day has finally come and I’m really excited to announce we will be carrying items from the “No Sugar Mamma”. Laurie is a life-long seeker and lover of all things health and wellness in mind, body and spirit. You will find this on her website and more about her no sugar, gluten free and vegan sweets. I met Laurie almost a year ago when she reached out to me. If there is one thing I have learned about Laurie – it is this. She is determined to make a huge difference and leaves no stone unturned. We are slated to have a couple of her products this weekend and further announcements will be made through social media. I am happy for her, us and you!
As our bakery continues to grow, I want you to know we will do our very best to help you along your journey – whatever that may be! When you need something sweet, we will be here. When you need something sugar free – we will be here for you too!
Blessings,
Pamela
